20 March 2004 to 22 March 2004
The Swartwildebees trail is situated just behind the
Van Reenen pass to the south and the first of us arrived late the Friday afternoon with
the rest arriving late at night. After a braai the "mossies" moved in and left
us bit of sleep for the whole night!
Next morning after breakfast we headed up a little valley,
and then along an escarpment. The views were really good from the top here!
For lunch we stopped at a small stream. Not much water flowed here.
After a bit of sweating up a fairly long hill and a few more kilometers we finally saw
our hut in the distance. It was quite well equipped and even had a "donkey" for hot water.
The afternoon was spent relaxing. Peter entertained
us with some of his "magic" tricks and later on in the evening we had a few card
games before eventually relaxing next to a nice fire.
A view of our hut next to the trees at the bottom.
Our intrepid little group.
Standing in the wild flowers.
Next morning preparing to hit the road again.
Cooling off.
Through the African bush.
A favorite club tradition "getting lost"!
And finally that cooool beer!!! This was a very enjoyable hike and well worth doing again.
