While the first day of my trip went by doing some shopping I got the time the day before the wedding to meet my brother Wolfgang and his future wife Christine later in the afternoon. We went to a place called "Theresienwiese" in Munich where they had parts of the "Weihnachtsmarkt" (christmas market) in big tents, very convenient when it's snowing outside. Weird, you can even buy stuff from Africa there!

Waehrend ich am ersten Tag meines Aufenthalts mit Einkaeufen beschaeftigt war, fand ich am Tag vor der Hochzeit Zeit, mich mit meinem Bruder Wolfgang und seiner zukuenftigen Ehefrau Christine zu treffen. Wir trafen uns auf der Theresienwiese in Muenchen, wo sie grosse Zelte aufgebaut hatten fuer einen teils ueberdachten Weihnachtsmarkt, sehr angenehm, wenn es draussen schneit. Man kann sogar Sachen aus Afrika dort kaufen!

After looking around we had "Gluehwein" (hot tea with wine) and "Stollen" (typical christmas cake with raisins and lots of spices).

Nachdem wir einige Zeit die Staende besichtigt hatten, war es Zeit fuer Gluehwein und Stollen.

On 23rd December we met in the suburb of Schwabing/Munich at the magistrate's office for the wedding. Time to get to know Christine's family. The magistrate's office has been very busy on that day, a ceremony taking place roughly every 15 minutes.

Am 23. Dezember trafen wir uns am Standesamt in Schwabing/Muenchen. Dort lernten meine Eltern und ich Christines Familie kennen. Im Standesamt war sehr viel Betrieb, da ungefaehr alle 15 Minuten ein Paar getraut wurde.

After the ceremony everyone gathered in front of the door for the group photos.

Nach der Zeremonie gab es die ueblichen Fotoaufnahmen.

Danach ging es in Schmuddelwetter zum italienischen Restaurant, wo wir ein mehrgaengiges Menue genossen. Von links nach rechts: Martina (Rolands Frau), Roland, Erich, Herbert, Christines Mutter, Wolfgang, ich, Ursula, Christine, mein Vater, meine Mutter, Marion (Herberts Frau).

Christine's family had left earlier, my parents and me still staying a bit longer.

Christines Familie war schon etwas frueher gegangen, meine Eltern und ich blieben noch etwas laenger.

Christmas eve my mother and me went for a short walk just to get out despite the still miserable weather, here in a small forest close by.

An Heiligabend gingen meine Mutter und ich spazieren trotz des immer noch nicht so schoenen Wetters, hier in einem nahegelegenen Waldstueck.

Boxing day the search for sun continued but had been unsuccessful as well. At least the snow south of Munich close to the mountains was much more than in Dachau so my parents and me enjoyed the landscape covered in thick snow.

Am zweiten Weihnachtsfeiertag wollten wir endlich mal die Sonne sehen, es war jedoch wieder nichts. Zumindest lag mehr Schnee suedlich von Muenchen in der Naehe der Alpen als in Dachau, so genossen meine Eltern und ich die schneebedeckte Landschaft.

The whole village joins the popular sport "Eisstockschiessen" (curling on ice).
For us it was time to get back before it got dark and the next day it was time for me to leave for South Africa again.

Fuer uns war es Zeit wieder zurueck zu fahren bevor es dunkel wurde and am naechsten Tag war es Zeit fuer mich wieder nach Suedafrika zu fliegen.
