01 August 2009 to 02 August 2009
When the going gets tough, the tough get going. And so we ended up hiking our old favorite again at
Serendipity. This time it was just Silvia and myself, as our 4x4 hiking buddies had fallen on hard times and
could not come. The weekend turned into the coldest one we had ever had here, but that was only to start on
Saturday. The Friday evening was spent with a nice roast chicken and wine.
Relaxing around the camp fire with a good bottle of red wine.
Sunrise next morning and the clouds are moving in.
There was still some water in the small streams and pools.
A rest at "Desperate and Dateless" corner.
Here and there the sun broke through briefly.
Hiking past "Tenderized Hikers hole"
Despite the lack of sun there was still some very beautiful scenery.
Hut - Sweet - Hut..finally! Here the owners had been doing some maintenance and the place looks as if it may
be restored to its former glory.
And now for some coffee and tea..
while enjoying the view. During the night the clouds moved out and the temperatures really plummeted.
We waited until the sun was well up next morning before setting out on the hike back to base camp.
In the bush we came across a large Kudu.
Unfortunately the clouds moved in again and so the sun was never really able to heat the day up much.
Nevertheless it was still an enjoyable hike just in being able to get out into nature again.
