23 January 2010 to 27 January 2010
Another year has flown past and as usual we went to celebrate my birthday at one of our favorite camping
spots, namely at Merry Pebbles in Sabie. Even though the weather forecast was not great, we still decided to
go. Despite having had some rain every day and night, the weather was not too bad and the occasional sun
peeked through the clouds. This immediately resulted in very hot and humid weather, so the clouds were in
actual fact quite nice to have around.
At this time of the year Merry Pebbles is virtually deserted, so we had the whole place for ourselves.
After just having completed the 6day 100km long Amatola hike in the Eastern Cape, we were glad to get a bit of
a rest and spend our time just relaxing and reading.
This also allowed us the opportunity to study some of the local fauna, such as the ants...
With all the rain, the Sabie River's water turned into a muddy brown.
A great feature at Merry Pebbles is the hot water pool. This is especially nice at night.
A nice relaxing braai in the evening with a good bottle of red wine also goes down well.
The pancakes in this part of the world are excellent!
All good things come to an end. We've just packed up everything and are ready to head back to Joburg, but then
there is always next time to look forward too!
