21 May 2004 to 23 May 2004
Kaapsehoop is one of our old favorites. The base camp
consists of two railway coaches with very good facilities.
Dinner was the usual Braai, beer and wine and some
other strange stuff that Tim brought that went down rather well!
After crossing a gorge one comes out the other side
and then there's some really nice views.
Some grassland with the forest on the one side.
The Aloes were looking good at this time of the year.
The trails contours along the escarpment most of the first day.
Finally after a rather long steady incline we made it to our lunch spot that sat right on
top of a waterfall.
After another hour of slogging away through pine forest and over rocks, we made it to our
overnight "hut". The hut was an old foresters house right in the middle of the
pine forest. The place was also well equipped with a "Donkey" and plenty of fire wood.
Now for that Whiskey!
A beautiful big tree in the garden.
Enjoying the evening with the braai and wine...well at least some of us had brought some wine.
The others looked enviously on!
While most had "Glue" for breakfast some of
the others had a delicious Cheese and Bacon omelet.
The second day takes you through a bit of grassland and some interesting rocks before descending into
pine forest again.
Eventually you exit the forest and follow the same path back as the day before.
Well...that was the end of another great weekend. Nobody was looking forward going back
to work the next day again!
