29 December 2007 to 01 January 2008
Another year has come to an end and we again decided to celebrate the end at Aarends Nes on the Cycad trail
just north of Middleburg. Our small group of 5 had all arrived by about 5pm and the usual camp fire had been lit.
Next morning we were off not too early as we had plenty of time and the trail is not that difficult.
Its a beautiful trail and the day was clear and hot.
One of the giant Cycads along the way.
The trail eventually winds its way down to the Oliphants river.
Here some of us decided to cool down at the river.
The trail went through some very dense grass at which point it was quite difficult to follow.
Aarends Nes sits high up on a cliff overlooking the Oliphants river valley.
Next morning breakfast of scrambled eggs was made.
Most of us decided to take it easy this day as this was our day off to do with whatever one wanted.
During the day I decided to explore the magnificent rocks surrounding the camp.
That evening Silvia and myself made a potjie of lamb curry.
During the evening everyone sat around the fire.
We headed back to the base camp on the 1st.
The trail back is not long and takes one through some of the interesting rock formations that are in that area.
